13 August 2021
To our new Year 7,
I hope that you and your families have all had a wonderful holiday and have made lots of memories together.
It is just over a week away until me, and all the staff at Ibstock Community College will be welcoming you into Year 7 and we are all extremely excited. I hope that you are too!
Whilst many of you haven’t been to visit our school yet, I know that you have already met Miss Clements, Mrs Roden and of course your form tutors via their videos on the college website. If you haven’t seen them already, please do visit the website. As well as the videos there is lots of information for you as we prepare for the start of term.
Your parent/carer should by now have received information to invite you all to school on Sunday 22 August 2021 for a Covid 19 lateral flow test. Please don’t worry about this, our students have been doing these twice a week for some months now and we will have to continue to do them for the first few weeks of term at least. It soon becomes part of your routine; it doesn’t take long, and it doesn’t hurt at all. Doing the tests will make sure that only those who have Covid 19 must stay at home to self-isolate, whilst everyone else can carry on, learning and enjoying school life.
When you arrive at school on Wednesday the 25 August, no later than 08.30, you will see our Assistant Headteachers; Mr Mason, Ms Scott and Ms Nelson along with Miss Clements, Mrs Roden and Miss Belnavis your pastoral manager. I will be there too to say hello, so please come to the main gates and we will show you the way to the basketball court where your tutors will be waiting for you. No doubt, you will be pleased to see some familiar faces from primary school although in no time at all you will have made new friends within your form groups. It really is quite exciting!
The first two days at school will cover everything that you need to know about life at Ibstock; what we expect from you and what you can expect from us too. There will be lots of information to take in but please don’t worry, your form tutor and other staff members will be on hand to answer your concerns. Don’t forget it’s completely natural to feel a little bit anxious but by the end of the week, hopefully you will feel much more confident. If you don’t, then Miss Belnavis will be able to help.
I always love the first day of term and this year’s will be extra special. I hope that you are getting excited to wear your new school uniform. It is an important part of college life and links to the college ethos and the RESPECT standards. You will hear lots more about this over the first few days of term during our Learning Camps. You will also need to learn our college motto “Respect and pride brings success”. My wish is that every student at Ibstock is proud of themselves, respectful of everyone and enjoys lots of success both in their learning and across their whole college experience.
Before I sign off, I would like to wish you all a safe remainder of the holiday. Try to start having a few early nights next week so that you are ready to get up on time for school on the 25 August 2021. I will be waiting for you all at the school gates!
Returning to school 2021
10 August 2021
Dear parents / carers,
I hope that you have all been enjoying the weather this summer. No doubt many of you will have also chosen a “staycation” rather than venturing further afield. Whatever you have been doing, I hope that you are all safe and looking forward to the start of the new academic year.
Following the release in July of the government guidance for schools, we have been working hard to ensure classrooms are reverted back to their specific subject area. Whilst we are pleased that we do not need to keep our students in bubbles, this system remains on standby to revert back should guidance change in the future.
To our new Year 7 families I would like to reassure you with the following updates and on behalf of the Senior Leadership Team and the whole staff at Ibstock, we welcome you into our “family” and look forward to meeting your children on Wednesday 25th August 2021.
For those with students coming back into Year 8 and Year 9 we look forward to seeing you all again.
Enjoy the remainder of the summer, take care.
Lateral flow testing
As you are aware the guidelines from the Government recommends that students complete two lateral flow tests on their return to school following the summer holidays. One of these will be completed before they return to school, the second within 3 – 5 days of the first test.
While the lateral flow test is not compulsory we encourage everyone to play their part in the safe return of all students and staff to Ibstock Community College therefore I urge you to allow your child to take part in the lateral flow testing. This will give you and your child reassurance and may identify students or staff who have the virus without knowing so that they can self-isolate.
As you will see on the timetable below the testing centre will be open for extended times on Sunday 22 August and Monday 24 August to allow you to bring your child for their first lateral flow test.
By opening the testing centre on these days it removes the need to delay or stagger the return to school for students. Please support us by bringing your child to the testing centre on their allocated day.
We are not required to seek consent, so there are no forms to complete, a child attending their test is considered as consent.

If your child has any symptoms of Covid-19 they should not attend the site for a test – you will need to book them for a PCR test.
Our testing centre is located in our community centre on the school grounds. There will be signage directing you were to go.
If your child cannot attend the testing centre for their first test you can complete a lateral flow test at home and forward the NHS confirmation to email@example.com
Covid 19 vaccinations
The Community Immunisation Service from Leicestershire Partnerships NHS Trust have provided us with preliminary dates for a Covid 19 vaccination to be given in school. We await confirmation regarding the age range that this vaccination will be extended to. Once we have more information we will of course share this with you.
Arrival, lessons and timetable
Students must arrive at school by 08.30 for a prompt start to registration at 08.40. The end of the school day will be 3.00pm. Students should enter the site through their designated entrance:
Year 7: Enter through the main entrance and go to the basketball court. Your tutor will meet you there on your first day.
Year 8: Enter through the overflow car park entrance and go to the hard surface court.
Year 9: Enter through the overflow car park entrance and go to the central playground.
All students will spend their first days in school with their tutor group so that their form tutor can welcome them and share important information to help students settle smoothly into the new academic year.
Uniform and Equipment
We expect that all students return in full school uniform including school shoes which comply with our uniform policy https://www.ibstockcollege.co.uk/uniform-information. A gentle reminder that all shoes must be plain black in leather or leather look and be able to be polished. We DO NOT accept trainers or canvas shoes.
We will continue to ensure classrooms are well ventilated, during cooler weather base layers may be worn if required under the expected uniform. There is also the option to purchase the v-neck jumper. Please see our website for details.
On the days when your child has PE, students should come to school in their Ibstock PE kit and will remain in their PE all day.
Your child will need a warm waterproof coat so that they can remain outside for breaks and lunches.
From the start of the new term all students must bring with them their own filled water bottle, pencil case, healthy break time snack (optional).
From next academic year we will have two lunchtime slots:
12:20 – 13:00 for Y7 and half of Y8
13:20 – 14:00 for half of Y8 and Y9
Food will be paid for via thumb print in the same way, Y7 and any other new students will have their thumb print taken on their first day. Grab bags can still be ordered during morning registration; hot food will be available for students to select at lunchtime. Please ensure your child has sufficient balance on their ParentPay account to purchase food.
The car park at the front of the school is for school staff use and should not be used to drop off /collect students unless in case of emergency. Could I please ask that for drop offs and collections you park off site and your child/children walk into school. Staff will be on duty before and after school.
Important reminder about Covid guidance

28 June 2021
Following my letter on Friday I wanted share with you some further information.
Our first day of the new academic year, Wednesday 25 August 2021, will be year 7 only in school. We hope this will allow them a day to get their bearings before year 8 and 9 return to school.
A virtual tour of our school, filmed by a current Ibstock Community College student, is available for you and your child to view.
During this week we will be uploading a video of the presentation I would have given to you on the induction evening. We will also be uploading information about all our year 7 tutors so your child can get to know a little bit about their tutor before they join us.
One request we have received is to video where the schools bus drops off and the school hall at lunchtime, we will get these done this week and add them to this page.
If there are any other requests or ideas of how we can enhance our online induction, please let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
With best wishes

Cancellation of Induction Evening 2021
Dear Year 6 families,
After careful consideration by the Senior Leadership Team we have made the difficult decision to cancel our induction evenings scheduled for 30 June and 1 July 2021.
As you may be aware from the recent Leicestershire County Council letter there have been a high number of positive Covid -19 cases associated with children and young people in Leicestershire. The data is also showing an increase in cases in the North West Leicestershire area (51.1% increase compared to the previous 7 days).
Whilst we made alterations to our plans following the Prime Ministers announcement to delay the further easing of restrictions we feel now that it would be irresponsible to have 218 students from 28 different primary schools mixing with each other over the course of these two evenings.
I am as disappointed and frustrated as you are that we cannot hold our induction evenings, I was so looking forward to meeting all our new students.
However please be reassured that all the staff at Ibstock Community College are committed to making the transition to secondary school as smooth as possible for your child. Over the course of next week we will be add lots of information to our website for you and your child to view together -
If you have questions regarding school uniform please see our website or contact Liss Sport directly
For any other questions or concerns regarding transition please email
With best wishes

Ibstock Community College – New Year 7 Induction
Dear Parent / Carer,
We are really excited to meet all of our new students who will be joining us next academic year and welcoming them and their families to our school.
With all the changes we have had to make this year and guidance from the Department of Education we have had to rethink our traditional induction and will be introducing a whole new induction process.
Before the half term break Mrs Williams, Head of School, and Miss Clements, Progress Leader will visit your child’s primary school to meet with them and talk to them about life at Ibstock Community College.
If your child is one of only a few children from their primary school moving up to Ibstock Community College Miss Clements will be in touch to arrange an alternative meeting with Mrs Williams.
Following this you will be invited to come and visit our school with your child. This will be after school and will be either Wednesday 30 June or Thursday 1 July. During the evening your child will be able to meet other students in their tutor group and hopefully their tutor; you will be able to look around our school and see the classrooms, the library, the science labs, and the art room etc. This also marks the beginning of a new partnership between the school and each new family. Liss Sports will be in attendance to take any Ibstock Community College school uniform orders, ready for the first day of term.
Letters will be sent to your home address week commencing 7 June with the date and time of your invitation. We ask that only one parent / carer attends with their child and we are unable to accommodate any siblings.
In the meantime, there is a lot of information on our website to look through and some forms that we require you to complete and return to us by Friday 4 June: https://www.ibstockcollege.co.uk/more/y6-to-y7-2021
We look forward to welcoming you.
Documents for completion and return by Friday 4 June:
Dear Parent / Carer
We are delighted to welcome you to Ibstock Community College as a future parent.
We have lots of information to share with you in this link to support your child in the transition process from year 6 to year 7 in August 2021 - transition information.
We appreciate this is a big step and we hope that this information has made your child feel more at ease about their move to secondary school.
During May and June, we hope to visit primary schools where we will talk to children individually. The purpose of this visit is to make sure they are happy about the process and to answer any questions they may have.
We are planning to be able to have induction days this year but will obviously be dependent on government guidance. We want to welcome you to Ibstock Community College.
Our induction days this year are on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 July 2021. These are two very important days where your child will get to see the college in action, to experience our school day and to learn all about the college’s expectations of behaviour in and around. We will also be holding our very popular induction evening on Wednesday 30 June and Thursday 1 July 2021 for parents and children. More details of this will follow later.
To ensure we meet all your child’s needs we would like to work with you as closely as possible during the transition process, and deal with any worries and concerns you may have before your child moves to us in August 2021. The information you provide us with will give us a better understanding of your child’s needs. Any information that you provide will, of course, remain confidential. We would, therefore, appreciate it if you would complete the form and return it to Ibstock Community College.
If you would like any further information in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us - or you could visit our website, which contains lots of additional information about our school.
With best wishes
Sophie Williams Marianne Clements Di Scott
Head of School Progress Leader and Y6 Transition Coordinator Assistant Principal

ParentPay is our college’s online cashless payment system that lets you make secure online payments by credit and debit card. You can also pay in cash at local PayPoint stores. It is used to make cashless payments in schools for dinner money and activities like trips etc.
This online payment system gives you a more convenient and flexible way to make payments to ICC and helps to keep your child safe. By making cashless payments you know that your money has reached the school safely.
You can view your account statement and payment history, check when payments need to be made and set alerts to tell you when your account needs topping up. Your child can also check their balance at any time by using the machine in the hall foyer. You can also see a report online which tells you which meal your child chooses at lunchtime.
You will receive a letter from us with your username and password before to set up your account, currently we are unable to confirm when this will be.
When they join us students will have their thumb scanned (please read biometric technology consent as part of the attached ICC Procedure agreement). Students will not be allowed to purchase food if there are not enough funds in their account in the new academic year.
If your child does not currently receive free school meals, but you feel you may be entitled, you can download an application form from Leicestershire County Council www.leicestershire.gov.uk or telephone 0116 3057093. We strongly encourage you to do this, as the school will receive significant additional funding to support your child’s education.
For an idea of the food available and a price list please go to our Healthy school page.
Individual Health Care Plan (IHCP)
If your child has a health condition and / or requires medication you will need to complete an IHCP detailing this. An IHCP is a written, recorded plan on the specific information and requirements of an individual student and ensures that the student’s needs are met in the educational setting.
Please give the completed IHCP to reception, along with their medication. Further details and the IHCP form can be found in the Policies section of our website.
It is your responsibility to ensure we have an update IHCP in school along with the required, in date, medication.
