Year 6 Transition

Dear Parent / Guardian,

I am delighted that your child will be joining us next academic year. We are proud of the quality of education and care that we provide and are confident that your child will progress well while attending Ibstock Community College.

Since the half term break Miss Clements, progress leader visited several primary schools to meet the children and talk to them about life at Ibstock Community College.

As part of the induction process we have two very important events coming up:

  • our induction days - Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 June
  • our new parent welcome evening -Thursday 30 June 5- 7pm

Induction days for year six children – Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 June 2022

Year six children will attend Ibstock Community College to experience life at the college.  They will spend time with their tutor, experience our high-quality teaching and learning and meet the students who will be in their tutor group.

Arrival times and departure times

Children should be dropped off at college at 8:45 on Wednesday 29 June and make their way to the main hall. Staff and students will be available at the main gates and reception to act as guides. School finishes for Year 6 students at 2:40pm when they will need collecting. The same times will apply on Thursday 30 June.

What equipment do they need to bring with them?

Students will need to bring a pen, pencil and ruler with them. They may have a PE taster session, but do not need to bring a PE kit.

Students will also need to bring a bottle of water with them.

Permanent bus passes will be issued to eligible students during the summer holiday in readiness for the start of the academic year on Tuesday 30 August 2022.

For the two induction days, students should wear their primary school uniform. Our uniform policy can be viewed on our website

Liss Sports will be in college on Thursday 30 June 2022 from 5-7pm. During this time students will be able to try on uniform.

If you feel you are entitled to financial support to purchase uniform as a low income family then please contact the college as soon as possible so we may discuss this further.

ParentPay (please see enclosed letter with your username and password)

ParentPay is our college’s online cashless payment system that lets you make secure online payments by credit and debit card.  You can also pay in cash at local PayPoint stores. It is used to make cashless payments in schools for dinner money and activities like trips etc.

This online payment system gives you a more convenient and flexible way to make payments to Ibstock Community College and helps to keep your child safe.  By making cashless payments you know that your money has reached the school safely.

You can view your account statement and payment history, check when payments need to be made and set alerts to tell you when your account needs topping up.  Your child can also check their balance at any time by using the machine in the hall foyer.  You can also see a report online which tells you which meal your child chooses at lunchtime.

School meals

All year six students will receive a free school lunch on Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 June.  This will give them the opportunity to sample the food we have on offer - our school meals are always very popular, with a large number of our current students choosing to have a school meal.

Lunchtime will be at 1:20pm. Please send your child with a healthy snack they can eat at breaktime (11am – 11:20am).

On Wednesday, students will have their thumb scanned.  Students will not be allowed to purchase food if there are not enough funds in their account in the new academic year.

If your child does not currently receive free school meals, but you feel you may be entitled, you can download an application form from Leicestershire County Council or telephone 0116 3057093.  We strongly encourage you to do this, as the school will receive significant additional funding to support your child’s education.

Individual Health Care Plan (IHCP)

If your child has a health condition and / or requires medication you will need to complete an IHCP detailing this. An IHCP is a written, recorded plan on the specific information and requirements of an individual student and ensures that the student’s needs are met in the educational setting.

Please give the completed IHCP to reception, along with their medication. Further details and the IHCP form can be found in the policies section of our website

New families welcome evening - Thursday 30 June- 5 – 7pm

As part of the induction process, families and their children are invited to our welcome evening - we hope that this will be one of many opportunities to meet you. During the evening, you will meet with key staff who will look after the well-being and successful progress of your child, this also marks the beginning of a new partnership between the school and each new family. There will be the chance to buy or order school uniform, meet your child’s tutor and watch a presentation in the main hall. 24 May 2022

Dear Families,

Year 6-7 Transition Updates

We are well into the process of transition now and looking forward to meeting all our incoming students on 29th and 30th June for the induction days.

All students should have now received our transition booklet and should have started working through the activities, please only complete the activities you are guided to each week, rather than racing ahead. Students will be expected to bring the completed booklet with them on their induction days.

For students at the larger primary schools, staff will be coming to visit during the first week back after half term to talk to the students about the move and to answer questions

For students who are coming from a school where there are 3 or fewer students moving up, they should have received a letter inviting them to an after-school transition event where they can meet other students, have a look around the school and ask lots of questions to allay any fears that they may have about moving up.

There are also invitations going out to other students who may require more support during the transition process.

Students will be required to make their own way to Ibstock Community College for the induction days.   School bus places are not available until August 2022.  To ensure a safe and efficient drop off and pick up, we ask that families car share as much as possible rather than dropping off individually. For both induction days the Year 6 students must arrive at Ibstock Community College at 8.45am and should be collected at 2.40pm.

Our induction evening will be taking place on Thursday 30th June from 5-7pm. Here you will have the opportunity to listen to a welcome from Mrs. Williams, to try on and order uniform and PE kit, to have a look around the school and to meet your child’s tutor. There will be more information to follow nearer the time.

Also, a reminder that next academic we will be introducing iPads for our Year 7 and Year 10 students. Please could you use the following link for more information and to sign up, the portal closing date has been extended.

As always, if you have any worries or concerns about your child’s transition, please do not hesitate to contact me to ensure that the process is as smooth as possible.

Kind regards,

Marianne Clements

Transition Coordinator

May 2022

Dear Year 6 Teachers,

Transition to Ibstock 2022

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the work already undertaken to support transition between our schools. Please find below information on activities and events that will take place over the next few weeks so that you are able to plan for them in your school calendar.

Transition Booklet

Please find enclosed copies of transition materials for each of the students that have been allocated a place at Ibstock Community College. Each booklet has the child’s name printed on the front. We have enclosed a spare generic copy for any of these students who may lose their booklet between now and induction. We do ask that you do not hand out booklets to students without confirmed places at Ibstock. If you are unsure if a student has been allocated a place at Ibstock, please contact me at who will be able to share that information with you.

We have also included a guide to completing the transition booklet as research suggests that the process is more successful if carried out over a period of time. We know some students may be eager and want to complete it in one weekend but we are asking for this to be completed over a number of weeks leading up to the first transition day.

Each week we are asking Primary Schools’ support to send home ideas for the parents to discuss with their children and to signpost the students to different activities within the booklet. The landscape notes (attached) will show teaching staff what we hope children will do each week next to the parent tips. Please send a tip to parents each week asking them to focus on a particular section with their child.

Children should be encouraged to work through the booklet taking their time and thinking carefully about the content of each page. We would like students to bring these booklets to their first transition day at Ibstock on 29th June 2022.

The first task is to complete the questionnaire (link below) due back by the 20th May 2022, so that we can identify any worries that children have regarding transition and plan our induction days to address these concerns. If you could encourage your Year 6 children to complete this with their parents/ carers, we would be very grateful. The Transition Team at Ibstock will collate all the questions asked by students at your school and we will answer these in a letter to Year 6 later in the term.

If you have any questions about the resources attached, please contact Marianne Clements on

Student iPads

Next academic we will be introducing iPads for our Year 7 and Year 10 students. Please could you share the following link with parents to ask them to sign up, the portal closes 17 May 2022.

Twilight Evening Wednesday 25th May 2022

Ibstock College will be hosting a twilight session on Wednesday 25th May 2022 3:30-5:30pm. Staff will be available on this evening to share draft form groups and discuss individual students in more detail.

SEND and DSL trained staff will attend this event to meet with primary colleagues who need to share more specific information on individual students related to these areas.

If you cannot make this event:

Please contact Marianne Clements at to organise a suitable time to discuss students.

SEND Transition arrangements

We will be offering the most vulnerable SEND learners the opportunity to visit the school as additional transition support. Tracey Roden, our SENDCO, will be in contact with schools regarding this.

Induction Days

Induction will be taking place on 29th and 30th June 2022. Year 6 students should have a completed transition booklet ready to share with their new teachers at Ibstock. We are planning activities around the tasks in the booklet so we would welcome any support you can give to students to encourage its completion. Students should bring the completed booklet with them on the first induction day at Ibstock on the 29th June.

Would you be able to inform parents that this year we will be asking them to drop off and pick up their children for induction days. As we have the majority of our Year 9 students staying with us, we won’t have the spaces on the bus that we usually have left when Year 9 students go up to Ashby for the day. To ensure that the drop off and pick up is as easy as possible, we would ask that parents group together to drop off several students rather than dropping off individually. We will also be changing the timings for Year 6 students so they will need to be dropped off at 8.45am and picked up at 2.40pm.

We would also ask that a TA from primary school accompanies all EHCP students to ensure the best transition for them.

We look forward to working with you to provide a smooth and valuable transition experience for all concerned.

Kind regards

Marianne Clements
